art therapy

art therapy A Social Service model......

art therapy is a mental health profession in which clients, facilitated by the art therapist, use art media, the creative process, and resulting artwork to explore their feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self awareness, manage behavior and addictions, develop social skills, improve reality orientation, reduce anxiety and increase self-esteem. a goal in art therapy is to improve or restore a client's functioning and his or her sense of well -being. art therapy practice requires knowledge of visual art ( drawing, painting, sculpture, and other art forms)  and the creative process, as well as of human development, psychological, and counseling theories and techniques. art therapy is an effective treatment for people experiencing developmental, medical, educational and social or psychological impairment. individuals who benefit from art therapy include those who have survived psychological trauma, abuse, and persons with adverse physical health.

In addition to serving our communities through the arts with an art gallery, Arteologists was in part created as a social Service Program to help at risk and adjudicated youth tap into the creative side of themselves. that is the right side of their brain as it were. Traditional social service programs offer one on one & group counseling and maybe some type of mentoring or life skills coaching. Here at Arteologists we offer this and so much more!

Arteologists offers counseling services in addition we also offer activities that include;

  • acting classes
  • singing classes
  •  how play a musical instrument
  •  how to write poetry
  • sculpting
  • painting - We even have an art gallery. once someone in our program learns how to paint, sculpt or photograph we take their art and hang it in our art gallery free for display at local art walk events. we have sold many pieces of art, its amazing!
  • video & audio production courses
  • hip hop philosophy

once the student unearhts his/her craft or talent, arteologists offers a place to then showcase what they've learned in front of their peers, families and friends at events we hold at our facility. our goal is to help our youth not only address their personal challenges with drug and alcohol abuse but to also explore and unearth any passions or dreams of becoming a musician or an artist. we at arteologists know that there are no 2 people alike and sometimes traditional forms of therapy don't work for everyone the same.

at arteologists our staff are passionate and invested in helping the youth in our community to explore and discover their inner artist!!
